How we make them

North Star Trading Co., started up in business in 1978. The first product we ever made was a four piece triange hat, but over the years our product line has grown to include four styles of sheepskin slippers, five different hats, and a smattering of leather goods. All our patterns are our own design and represent years of fine tuning. All of the work is done at our workshop on Whidbey Island, WA.

Making Sheepskin HatsWe’re a pretty small company, and we keep a close watch on quality control. We ship our products all over the world, but we have a local following too. You may not need a second pair for yourself, but once you’ve experienced the comfort of sheepskin, you’ll probably buy for your loved ones too!

We’re proud to have been part of the Pike Place Market community since 1978, handcrafting all of our products on beautiful Whidbey Island. After so long in the business, we have established a great relationship with our customers, who come from all over the world.

Shearing lambskin has many fantastic properties as foot-wear. With the wool tanned on the hide, it is able to breathe and circulate while keeping you warmer and drier then it’s acrylic counterparts. Clean up is simple, use mild soap and warm water to spot treat, then let them dry away from direct heat (you can also sprinkle corn starch into your slipper to revitalize the wool inside.

Whether you are snuggled up on the couch or out walking the dog, nothing feels quite like a pair of North Star sheepskin slippers.

Benefits of Sheepskin

Shearling sheepskin is great for any season. It keeps you cool during the summer and warm in wintertime, because of the breathing property of the wool’s hollow fibers. It is always comfortable because it is extremely soft, and it provides a comfortable cushion of air that acts as a temperature insulator.

More facts:

  • Sheepskin is able to absorb sweat immediately and can submit it in to the air seven times faster than synthetics.
  • Sheepskin against the body activates the blood circulation and the immune system supporting the relaxation and regeneration of the body.
  • Sheepskin is gentle on your skin because it contains lanolin, a basic substance similar to that found in human skin.
  • Sheepskin helps heal sensitive or inflamed skin or rashes.
  • Sheepskin is dirt and bacteria resistant. It has been known for centuries that the lanolin in natural sheepskin provides it with a self cleaning quality when the sheepskin is hung in fresh air.
  • Sheepskin will not give off an electrical charge. Synthetic seat covers are a 100% insulator of electrical energy. All natural sheepskin is a partial insulator providing you undisturbed release of static electricity created by the natural friction of your body and the environment…….
